The Big Picture - Home Security System Review

The Big Picture

Back in 1992, Todd Pedersen hired 10 of his buddies to sell pest control services out of a single-wide trailer. His personal approach to sales led to success, but he saw a future in home home security systems, so he founded APX Alarms in 1999. Pedersen sold to Blackstone Industries for more than $2 billion in 2012, though he is still the company’s CEO.
In 2011, APX changed its name to Vivint. With a reputation for technological innovation and providing solid value, Vivint invented its own name by combining the word vive, ‘to live,’ with the first syllable of ‘intelligent.’ Vivint has coined a word that connotes living intelligently through technology—Vivint’s mission.
Known for its award-winning customer service, Vivint has more than 7,000 employees and a million customers in the U.S. and Canada. Vivint is only one of three U.S. home security companies that takes in more than $30 million a month in repeating revenue.

Nuts & Bolts - Home Security System Review

Nuts & Bolts

All packages include the basic home security system—a Vivint SkyControl panel with a 7” touch-screen display, smoke detector, door and window sensors, motion detector, key fob, and a Vivint yard sign.
The Smart Protect & Control package adds a choice of two additional components from a three-item menu: remote door access, smart thermostat, or doorbell camera.
Vivint’s Smart Complete package includes all three of the above components plus a 1TB Space MonkeyTM secure cloud local storage unit for complete data protection.
Vivint also designs larger custom packages to meet its clients’ needs.

MONITORING

Vivint provides 24/7/365 monitoring, a free mobile app allowing remote access to your home, live two-way voice communication, event notifications, and historical event tracking.

ALERTS

The Vivint system is wireless, and the Vivint SkyControl panel has a battery backup in case of power failure. Customers away from home are alerted to events through Vivint’s free mobile app, which includes severe weather alerts.
Response time between a ‘duress alarm’ and Vivint contacting local authorities is as little as 30 seconds.

HOME AUTOMATION

Vivint offers added home automation components available at additional cost. Here’s a quick look:

  • recessed door sensor
  • glass break detector
  • flood/freeze sensor
  • carbon monoxide detector
  • tilt sensor
  • small appliance control
  • panic pendant.

All equipment is warrantied for 120 days, unless the customer purchases a premium protection plan.

Over priced and system not fuctioning as sold

They were referred by family. I wanted to think about the systems over night, but high pressure, you must sign the contact tonight, fine, we will try it. Well, they ended up being there until 11pm to install the systems. The sales rep and installer all seen our dogs, they will be not problem. The first time I set the alarm, the dog set it off. Then we have the panel moved, and they system has never work right again. We always get sensor notifications and notification of low battery even after changing it. We try to get out of the contact since they did not provide what was promised and they want us to buy out the contact for $2,500.00. BUYER BEWARE!!
